Gifted

Overview
The Great Neck Middle School Gifted Program serves students through a cluster/resource model. In this model, our gifted students are clustered together and placed on specific teams. Our gifted program provides differentiated instruction through collaboration of core teachers and the gifted resource teacher, Mr. Howard. Gifted students interact with their teachers and classmates in a heterogeneous setting, while benefiting from the curricular modification of content, process, product, and learning environment. Mr. Howard also works with teachers to implement a variety of instructional strategies to provide for the needs of gifted students. Students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades can still attend ODC for dance. Students who are identified gifted in visual arts now attend Virginia Beach Middle School full time.

Mission

  • To challenge students with differentiated, interdisciplinary opportunities
  • To provide a flexible, innovative curriculum that promotes self-esteem, productivity, creativity, and leadership
  • To develop individual talents, special abilities, and a commitment to excellence
